Good, but maybe not for Novelists
I think the main thing I bought this for is “Syntax Control”. Sometimes I paste documetns from Ulysses into Wirter Pro, and run them through “Syntax Control”. I link my folder of Writer Pro (.md) documents up to my Ulysses Library under “External Folders”. Both apps sync in “External Folders” — changes and edits show up across platforms.
My main bone to pick with Writer Pro is the lack of fundamental paragraph formatting. As a Novelist I need paragraphs to be indented and not spaced away from one another (i.e. block paragraphs). iA Writer Pro does not automatically indent, or export your writing in a format that resembles a novel writing manuscript . If you wish it to be formatted for submission, you can do so in a seperate app.
Its “Work Flows” are a fail, so if I have to write in it, I just use the “Write (.md)” workflow, and ingore the rest.
Overall, though, iA Writer Pro is a useful app in the editing process. Writing in the Writer Pro editor is pleasant, and the “Focus Mode” that highlights only the sentense you’re on is helpful.
If iA Writer Pro wishes to be an app that is useful to would be, and established Novlests of prose, then it has to improve in iA Writer 3.
